HISTORY

The Story Behind CATERPY — How Our No-Tie Shoelaces Were Born

When I first noticed a pair of French-made, no-tie shoelaces at a gym—priced at 2,500 yen—and realized how easily they made shoes slip on and off, one thought immediately came to mind:

My own child, who has been playing sports since early childhood.

Even expensive sneakers would quickly get damaged from stepping on the heel.
I wanted to solve that problem.

So I set out with a goal: to create an affordable option, priced under 1,000 yen.

A pair of shoelaces that could be adjusted freely for the perfect fit—
and worn without ever needing to tie or untie them.

After countless prototypes and repeated trial and error with the factory,
it took nearly two and a half years of development before “CATERPY” was finally born.

We have gathered feedback from over 800 customers, reflecting their experiences and requests directly through our support channels.

Commitment to the Highest Quality

At CATERPY, we never cut corners—especially in the details you cannot see.
This dedication is rooted in Japan’s craftsmanship spirit.

Rather than relying solely on machines, our team makes careful adjustments by hand to achieve the best possible finish.

Every pair is inspected through 16 strict quality checkpoints, ensuring even subtle material changes are never overlooked.

With the expertise built in our own factory, CATERPY continues to deliver uncompromising quality and reliability.

Patented Technology: “Elastically Deformable Lace”

CATERPY’s signature nubbed structure is created through a proprietary manufacturing method that weaves special nylon and rubber together.

Many steps in this process cannot be replicated by automated machines alone. Based on our patented technology, skilled staff make precise adjustments by hand to complete each lace.

This finely engineered structure provides a secure fit and the comfort of wearing shoes without ever needing to tie them.

It is the core technology behind CATERPY’s globally recognized no-tie shoelaces.

Building on years of technical expertise, we have also developed our latest innovation—the MAGICLACE series, featuring adjustable tension control—helping enhance athletic performance from the ground up.

STRENGTH 02

Strict Temperature Control

CATERPY shoelaces are made from delicate materials that can subtly change in length and shape depending on temperature and humidity.

For this reason, our manufacturing team carefully monitors and strictly controls the factory’s environment every day, paying close attention even to the smallest differences in conditions.

Through constant trial and improvement, we have created an ideal production setting and carry out thorough inspections to maintain stable, consistent quality.

We truly believe that “shoelaces are living things,” and we produce each pair in its optimal condition, one by one.

STRENGTH 01

Fully Made in Japan

To ensure consistent performance as no-tie shoelaces, CATERPY is manufactured entirely at our own factory in Kamo City, Niigata Prefecture—from raw materials sourced in Taiwan and Japan all the way to the finished product.

In the early days, production relied mainly on outsourcing. However, in order to achieve rapid product development and continuous quality improvement, we built our manufacturing line from the ground up.

With the reliable skills of our experienced team, we have established a stable supply system capable of producing up to 10,000 pairs per day.

By staying committed to “Made in Japan,” we are able to create products that truly support and stay close to the people who use them every day.
